Visit to London and Cycling with a Brompton

Adventure Jul 18, 2017

I visited London for a business visit in late May this year, and I was accompanied by my trusty Brompton folding bicycle. Of course, London is like a home-coming for the Brompton, and both of us had a blast cycling around on the weekends as well as for commuting between meetings. Here are some glimpses of my adventures in London and other places nearby.

I flew out of Mumbai on a hot summer day, glad to be going to cooler climes of the UK. I said good bye to a foggy view of Mumbai and the Bandra Worli Sea Link

Our business workshop venue was to the north of London and we stayed at a hotel in Cheshunt, with the rest of our team arriving a day later than me. Fortunately, it was bright and sunny... we probably brought the good weather in from Mumbai for the locals informed us that there was a cold wave just the previous week... a quintessential phenomenon of London weather.

Cycling in the Lee Valley Regional Park

Not too far from the hotel was the Lee Valley Regional Park. I was lucky to be able to cycle in the park not only on weekends but also for commuting to the location where our business workshop was being held.

Cycling from Greenwich along the Thames to Trafalgar Square

On the weekend after my business workshop, I shifted closer to the city, from where I could explore the rich variety of historical monuments and vistas of the city, especially along the Thames river.

A Visit to Bath and Stonehenge - a father and son trip

While I was busy with my business workshop, my son Rohan joined me there for his Football coaching camp at Football CV Academy. After we were both done with our respective assignments, we spent a week traveling around in London city. But the highlight was our one day visit to Bath and Stonehenge.

Other highlights from our visit were:

Rohan got to play in the famous King Power Stadium at Leicester

We also took a tour of the Chelsea Football Club - Rohan's favorite club!

We got to see the one-day exhibition match between India and New Zealand at The Oval!

We visited the Natural History Museum and saw the amazing displays of the dinosaurs and other prehistoric creatures!

We saw the famous musical - The Book of Mormon and enjoyed it to the hilt!

We went for an evening of soul music played by the amazing Atlantic Soul Orchestra at The Jazz Cafe and had sore feet dancing to the beat!

After that hectic week in London, it was time to head back home and we took our last subway ride to Heathrow airport.
